Gippy Grewal sings for Ranveer Singh in Befikre
Punjabi superstar actor-singer-director Gippy Grewal, who made his Bollywood debut with Second Hand Husband last year, is back in the industry with a song. While his first film tanked, Gippy seems to have struck big this time — he has just rendered the title track in Aditya Chopra’s
Befikre, which features Ranveer Singh. While Gippy does not want to reveal details at the moment, we hear that the song will have steamy scenes featuring Ranveer and Vani Kapoor.
Gippy says, “Yes, I am back in Bollywood with a song for Yash Raj. Also, I’m directing a film in Hindi. It’s a remake of my directorial debut in Punjabi, which was called Ardaas.” He adds that the film was far removed from what audiences normally expect from him. “I directed Ardaas so I could speak on matters that I am not able to address in my films as an actor. When I direct a film I don’t want to be bogged down by expectations.”
Now Gippy is preparing for its Hindi remake. “I will be heading to Mumbai this month to finalise the cast. The Hindi remake of Ardaas would be very different from the Punjabi version. In Punjabi, Ardaas was based on the teachings of the Gurbani. We are changing the basic content, but not the intent. Also, the cast will be completely Bollywood. Some very prominent names are being considered.”
Gippy is very clear on his role as a director. “When I direct a film I’ll never face the camera in the same film. It is too much to take on both acting and direction simultaneously.”
