Arvind Kejriwal gives Rs 1 crore to Khan kin, centre offers Rs 25 lakh
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union home minister Rajnath Singh announced compensation of Rs 1 crore and Rs 25 lakh respectively to the family of NDMC estate officer M.M. Khan, who was shot dead by motorcycle-borne assailants earlier this week.
The New Delhi Municipal Council also offered a job to one of the family members of Mr Khan and allotted a three-tier house to them.
The Delhi chief minister, who visited the Khan family members at his residence in Jamia Nagar on Friday, said that compensation will be given as a “mark of respect.” He was accompanied by NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar.
“Visited the family of Sh. Khan, the honest NDMC officer, who was murdered bcoz he refused to budge to illicit demands,” the CM tweeted. “Though loss can’t be compensated, Del govt will pay Rs 1 cr to his family as mark of respect (sic),” Mr Kejriwal added in another tweet.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh had earlier in the day announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh to the family of Mohammed Moin Khan, a lawyer and an assistant legal adviser with the NDMC, who was shot dead a day before he was scheduled to pass the final order on the lease terms of a hotel, The Connaught, which was functioning on a property leased by the civic body.
“The NDMC has offered a job to one of the family members, whoever is eligible. The CM was accompanied by NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar during his visit. Expenditure on education of Khan’s children will also be incurred,” said a government officer.
