A Delhi police constable posted with the police control room died on Friday night at Outer Delhi’s Singhu Border area after he was pushed in front of a moving bus by a drunk man during an altercation.
The victim, identified as constable Lokesh, was posted in North Delhi and was going home to Barabani village in Sonepat via Singhu Border after finishing his duty for the day.
The incident occurred at around 9 pm near the toll booths at the Delhi-Haryana border when the constable got into an argument with a drunk man, identified as Rajesh Pandey.
According to the police, Pandey was drunk and was misbehaving with people.
On noticing that Pandey was creating a nuisance in the area, off-duty constable Lokesh interrupted and entered into an argument with him, the police said.
However, Pandey overpowered the constable and started beating him up and in a fit of rage he pushed Lokesh in front of a moving bus,” said a senior police officer, adding that the constable was grievously injured.
After the incident, the accused was nabbed by local people nearby who also informed the police. A police team was sent to the spot after receiving a police control room (PCR) call and they rushed the constable to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. Lokesh’s body was later handed over to his family after a post-mortem examination.
A case was registered at Alipur police station and the accused has been booked under appropriate Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections.
Pandey, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, used to stay in Nangal Puna area under Swaroop Nagar police station.
During investigation, the police found that Pandey, who worked in a steel factory in Outer Delhi, habitually created a nuisance after consuming alcohol and that he had consumed alcohol more than his capacity on the day of the incident.
