DU Admissions: Website crashes, chaos, confusion reign on Day 1
Panic ruled the first day of Delhi University’s admission process with university’s website crashing on Thursday, playing a spoilsport in the varsity’s maiden efforts at making the entire process online. The university website crashed early morning itself, rendering aspirants helpless who rushed in panic to colleges to seek alternative options. This is for the first time that the university has introduced a full-fledged online admission procedure for admissions where the aspirants had to select the course and college online itself.
Under the newly-introduced format, the applicants had to then log on to the college portal to generate an admission slip and lastly approach their respective colleges with the slip and other required documents.
All through the day, the DU campus wore a deserted look as compared to previous admission sessions. Since many students were not aware about how to get admission slip through online portal, many were seen enquiring from help desk centres and other volunteers how to proceed further. Many students had visited the campus with their parents.
For Ramjas College Zoology student Akansha Bora, the first day experience at the DU was more of a nightmare. The moment she logged on to the admission portal, it crashed. “I came down to Delhi from Almora a day before and then when I tried logging at the university portal, the server got crashed. I really got very nervous and came rushing to the college especially to download and take a printout of my registration form.”
At Miranda House and Hansraj, one could spot a large number of students enquiring about online procedure. “We have been receiving queries from students regarding the server crash since morning due to which they could not download their forms. Even most of the outstation candidates with their parents were not aware about the online system of choosing the course and college. Unfortunately, they went back without completing the admission procedure,” Miranda volunteer Mahamedha Nagar said. SRCC enrolled over a total of 40 students, Hansraj College enrolled 12 students in science stream and 8 students in both commerce and humanities.
