Restrictions not on exempted vehicles

With the odd-even scheme coming into effect from Friday, the Delhi government on Wednesday issued orders prohibiting the parking of odd number private cars on even dates and even numbered cars on odd days till January 15. Officials said that the odd numbered cars will be allowed to use parking lots in the national capital on odd dates and similarly, the even numbered cars will be allowed to park on even dates only.

“With a view to implement the aforementioned, it has been advised that the entry and/or exit of vehicles to all parking lots, either for use by general public or for staff, may be prohibited, based on the restrictions imposed for the period from January 1, 2016, to January 15, 2016,” a statement from the Delhi government said. Officials said that the restrictions would not be imposed on the exempted vehicles, including two-wheelers, women driving alone or with children up to 12 years and VIP categories.

To check preparations of the odd-even scheme starting Friday, the Delhi government will conduct a coordination trial between different agencies at 200 points for two hours on Thursday in the national capital. “The coordination trial-run of different agencies will be conducted at 200 points for two hours from 9 am to 11 am tomorrow to check preparation of odd-even scheme. 66 enforcement teams of the transport department and 27 teams of sub-divisional magistrates will be deployed. Besides, 5,700 civil defence personnel, 1,000 cadets of NCC and 1,000 volunteers of the National Service Scheme will also deployed,” Delhi transport minister Gopal Rai said.

Around 125 teams of the transport department and revenue department will be deployed during the 15-day road-rationing plan so that the scheme could be effectively implemented, he said. Violations of the odd-even scheme will attract a fine of Rs 2,000. Officials of the transport department, traffic police and revenue department have been given powers to impose the penalty on the violators.
