After Pink, I've started to appreciate acting, says Andrea Tariang

Andrea Tariang made her debut with one of the most discussed films last year.

The 2016 Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Pink not only created a flutter for its content but also brought to the limelight actress Andrea Tariang, who impressed one and all with her acting chops. Her efforts were validated when the movie was recognised by the President of India for the impact it had on audience. In a chat, the actress talks about how the film has changed her life, being an outsider in the industry, and more.

Pink turned out to be one of the path-breaking films. What’s your life like after starring in the film?
You know, I was never into Bollywood movies. But after having acted in Pink, I have started to appreciate this art form. Besides this, nothing has changed much. Sometimes people recognise me and come up to say ‘Hi!’ which is kind of cool.

You are the daughter of celebrated blues band Soulmate member Rudy Wallang, and have been doing gigs from a tender age. Will you be crooning for any Bollywood film in the near future?
This is the one thing I would definitely love to do someday. So if any music producer is reading this, know that I am waiting for your call (giggles).

After Pink, are you contemplating taking up acting as fulltime job?
This was the first movie I have ever acted in, and it came to me out of the blue. The whole experience was an eye-opener and a pleasant one at that. I wouldn’t mind doing this kind of work often.

Currently, Bollywood is divided over the issue of nepotism. Did you feel you were being treated differently for not being a star kid or not having a celebrity godfather?
I am just one movie old, and I got a chance to work with the best team I could have ever wished for. They are like family to me. The term ‘outsider’ sounds strange to me.

Pink was recently recognised by the President of India for the impact it had on audiences. How did that feel?
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would meet the President of our country. He has been someone I’ve read about. Getting to meet him made me realise I was part of a project that has touched people and that makes me inspired and happy.
