The singer entered the city’s Notre Dame Basilica, wearing a black veil and holding the hands of her five-year-old twins, Nelson and Eddy. She was followed closely by her mother Therese and her 14-year-old son, Rene Charles.
The national funeral - the closest a Canadian citizen can get to a state funeral saw the area surrounding the cathedral packed with hundreds of well-wishers.
The couple is quite popular in this province. Attending the funeral was the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife, Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau, and federal Heritage Minister Mélanie Jol. Heartbroken Dion maintained her composure at the ceremony, tenderly kissing her husband's casket at the end of the service.
