Aadhaar now mandatory for open school exams

The new rule will kick in from the next examination to be conducted by the National Institute of Open Learning (NIOS).

New Delhi: In a move aimed at stopping examination malpractices, the government has decided to make Aadhaar mandatory for students appearing for open school exams to ensure there are no proxy candidates appearing on others’ behalf.

Scanner machines will also be provided at examination centres and only those students whose thumb prints match with the Aadhaar data will be allowed in.

The new rule will kick in from the next examination to be conducted by the National Institute of Open Learning (NIOS).

The Union human resource development ministry has approved the move.

“During the exams held in March, inspection teams had found proxy candidates appearing on other students’ behalf. To check this malpractice, Aadhaar has been made mandatory,” sources stated.
