A day after a forensic lab in Mathura concluded that the meat found in the house of the Dadri lynching victim, Mohammed Akhlaq, was of a “cow or its progeny”, Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav questioned the veracity of the forensic lab report.

“Where was the sample sent, who received it There was nothing objectionable in his house. Every eye is on this matter. Everyone wants that the victim’s family should get justice because a murder had taken place”, Mr Yadav told reporters in Ambedkar Nagar district.

“A person was murdered in Dadri and that is the focus of investigations. The nature of meat is not relevant and neither does it justify the crime. We are all concerned about the issue and want that the family should get justice,” he added.

BJP MP Yogi Adityanath, on the other hand, welcomed the lab report and demanded immediate release of the 18 people arrested in the case.

Ikhlaq, 52, was lynched by a mob on September 28 last year on the suspicion on cow slaughter.

Family members of the accused also filed a complaint on Wednesday with the Jarcha police station, demanding the registration of an FIR against Ikhlaq’s family.

The police said it will seek legal opinion before taking any action as the matter is sub-judice.
