Cop part of Vyapam probe hit by car, dies
A senior inspector in the Intelligence Bureau’s technical wing who was involved in the investigation of the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh was killed after being hit by a speeding car here late Sunday evening, the police said on Monday.
The incident and the reason for the delay in informing police headquarters of his death are being probed, a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity.,
Ajey Kumar Khare (58), who was said to be assigned to acting on intelligence inputs regarding the MP Professional Examination Board scandal, also known as the Vyapam scam, had been on his way on his scooter to supervise his under-construction house in the Trilanga area here when the mishap took place. “A black car hit the scooter he was riding from the rear and dragged him for a few metres. He sustained grievous injuries to his head and several parts of the body and died on the spot,” a police officer posted in the city’s Shahapur police station told this newspaper. Passers-by rushed him to the nearby Kolar Community Health Centre where doctors declared him brought dead, the police officer said. Khare had been posted to Bhopal a couple of years ago.
Senior police officers at the state police headquarters were allegedly kept in the dark about the incident for “a pretty long time”. “A probe is on into the road mishap and the reason for the delay in conveying news of the death of the IB officer to police headquarters,” a senior police officer told this newspaper on condition of anonymity.
