A hostel in Orissa only for pet dogs
A youth has opened an exclusive hostel in Orissa capital Bhubaneswar for pet dogs where people planning to make trips to other cities or enjoy a trouble-free vacation can leave their cuddled canines for a temporary period.
Tail Waggers, the hostel at Niladri Vihar, is well-equipped with amenities to give the pets a “home away from home” ambience.
Brijesh Das, the man behind the initiative, thought to start the hostel after he himself faced the problem what to do with his pet when he was asked to leave the city on official missions.
“I’m a canine lover. When I was doing a job in Kolkata a few years ago, I found it very difficult what to do with my pet dog while I was required to leave the city on official purposes or on a vacation. After I left the job, I came back to Bhubaneswar and started Tail Waggers for those people who want tension-free trips to outside or trouble-free vacations,” said Brijesh. On a regular day, the hostel houses about 10-15 dogs, while the number goes up to 35 during holiday season like summer vacations, Dussehra and Christmas. Prices of accommodation have been customised according to the breed of the dog.
For instance, owners of Great Dane and Saint Bernard dogs are charged Rs 600 while Labrador owners are charged Rs 400 per day. Similarly, Pug owners have to cough up Rs 300 a day.
Canines can also be taken to Tail Waggers in case of illness, pregnancy or for behaviour modification.
“Dog owners are required to fill a form furnishing details like the name of their dog, age, gender, food specifications, address and contact details of the owner,” said Mr Das.
Dogs are brushed regularly, bathed at intervals and blow dried for a prim appearance. A veterinary doctor is also consulted in case of any health issues.
