A man who questioned three youths for eve-teasing his daughter was beaten to death by them at Chavakkad, Kerala, on Wednesday night.

A man who questioned three youths for eve-teasing his daughter was beaten to death by them at Chavakkad, Kerala, on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Varanattu Ramesh, 52, of Chavakkad. He was the the president of the Congress party for ward number 11, Chavakkad municipality.

The three youths, who were inebriated, were identified as residents of Pookulam at Chavakkad. The incident occurred when they passed lewd comments while Ramesh, his daughter and his son were travelling on a bike around 8.30 pm. They were returning home from their ancestral house at Palayoor.

Ramesh, who took his children home, returned to Pookulam and questioned the youths, who assaulted him. Ramesh, a heart patient, suffered a heart attack and fell down unconscious.

One of his relatives who rushed to the place saw the youths assaulting him even after he was lying on the ground. Though Ramesh was rushed to Muthuvattoor Rajah Hospital near Guruvayur, his life could not be saved.

The Chavakkad police has identified the culprits who went absconding after the incident. Chavakkad CI A.J. Johnson said that charges of culpable homicide were slapped on them.

Ramesh is survived by his wife and their two school-going children. A hartal was observed in Chavakkad on Thursday.
