Sitapur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that SP and BSP cannot fight terrorism as their governments failed to handle even the village level goons.

“Bua (Mayawati) and Babua (Akhilesh Yadav) cannot fight terrorism, as their governments had even failed to handle goons at the village level,” said Prime Minister Modi here while addressing an election rally.

He said even the Congress party cannot fight terrorism as the party talks about “reducing the force in Jammu and Kashmir” and “doing away with the special rights given to our soldiers.”

“The ‘naamdaar’ (Rahul Gandhi) of the Congress party cannot fight terrorism. The party talks of reducing forces in Jammu and Kashmir, and doing away with the special rights provided to our soldiers,” he said.

“The helpless and corrupt governments were not concerned about the common men. They were only concerned about their own interest,” said Prime Minister Modi.

Talking about how feeble were earlier governments in addressing the problem of terrorism, he said: “The earlier governments were afraid that if they do something, then the world will impose sanctions.”

“The earlier government was a helpless government, which was concerned only about the comfort of one family and covering up all its black deeds. For me, the nation comes first,” he said.

“In the last five years, we have confined terrorism to a small region of Jammu and Kashmir. When our soldiers were attacked, we hit back the attackers inside their home. Earlier Indian governments used to rue about terrorism, but now Pakistan is crying,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi also slammed the previous BSP and SP governments in the state. “They have played with the states’ sugar cane mills. The BSP government used to sell sugar cane mills and disappeared. When the SP came to power, nothing was done in the name of inquiry,” he said.

SP, BSP and RLD have forged an alliance to take on the BJP in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in the state where 80 seats are at stake. As per the seat-sharing agreement, SP is contesting 37 seats and BSP 38. Three seats have been given to the RLD -- Mathura, Muzaffarpur, and Baghpat.

Uttar Pradesh is going to polls during all seven phases. So far, voting has taken place in 26 Lok Sabha seats. The state will go to the fourth phase of polling on April 29 for 13 Lok Sabha constituencies.
