Long gone are the days when gold jewellery went with everything and the coloured gemstones were meant to strictly match with the shade of the outfit.

The best part about attending any wedding is getting an opportunity to dress up. While we take hours, sometimes even days and weeks to plan our outfits, much less thought goes into the jewellery. Long gone are the days when gold jewellery went with everything and the coloured gemstones were meant to strictly match with the shade of the outfit.

Things are now changing and armed with the knowledge of better balance, contrast and colour blocking, the art of pairing the right jewellery to make the outfit shine even brighter is flourishing.

Recently, at Armaan Jain and Anissa Malhotra’s wedding reception, our Bollywood divas served us looks which gave us some absolutely stunning ideas to go innovative while picking out the perfect jewellery with the outfit and some also showed us how not to style your outfits.

Gauri Khan

While there is nothing wrong with Gauri Khan’s blingy number, it is simply too been-there-done-that. The dual tone grey and silver outfit could have massively benefitted from some cool accessorizing, but the emerald stone choker is simply not cutting it.

Malaika Arora

Contrast and colour blocking can definitely be the go-to ideas, but being in the same shade family is not always a bad idea. Malaika Arora’s conceptual saree by Amit Aggarwal is perfectly complemented by the tiered rubies around her neck. While both are in the shades of red, what saves a cringe-inducing matchy-matchy situation is the saree which is an orange-y red while the necklace has a much deeper hue of vermilion.

Shloka Mehta Ambani

The soothing pastel shade is a season favourite, the choice of jewellery is hardly doing justice to the beautiful creation. A heavy diamond choker and dangling earrings is a little too much for the dainty lehenga and takes the focus away from it.

Kareena Kapoor

When it comes to being a trendsetter, Kareena seemed to have perfected the art. While most people would have paired diamonds with the shimmery, greenish-grey Manish Malhotra creation, Kareena added some pop of colour to the monochromatic look by wearing a ruby-encrusted necklace and earrings by the same designer.

Alia Bhatt

Ask any stylist and they will tell you that it is a great idea to focus on one item of jewellery with a heavily embellished number like the blue and pink pastel creation by Manish Malhotra that Alia wore. The signature maang-tika not only looks absolutely pretty but saves the look from entering the OTT zone and let the dainty colour of the outfit shine on its own.
