It is learnt that Mr Malviya directed Delhi BJP to strengthen its social media team at state level by including 35 new members.

NEW DELHI: In an attempt to match AAP’s social media presence ahead of forthcoming Delhi Assembly polls, the BJP central leadership has asked its city unit to form WhatsApp group of 25,000 citizens in each of 70 Assembly segments. In a meeting with Delhi BJP media and social media team, party’s national IT head Amit Malviya asked to appoint two volunteers each in all the Assembly constituencies.

It is learnt that Mr Malviya directed Delhi BJP to strengthen its social media team at state level by including 35 new members. “Five new members each from seven parliamentary constituencies will be included in state social media team,” said a party insider.

A 20-member social media team will be constituted at Lok Sabha level, two each from 10 Assembly segment, falling in a parliamentary constituency. “Two social media volunteers in an Assembly segments will form WhatsApp group in which minimum 25,000 citizens will be made members. These groups will be used to reach people with BJP agenda, achievements of Narendra Modi government and highlight failure of Arvind Kejriwal government,” said a party leader.

A senior party functionary told this newspaper that each of this WhatsApp group will be used to provide “direct information” to the voters and keep a check on spread of fake news. A section in party believes that forthcoming Delhi Assembly polls scheduled early next year will be also fought on social media with incumbent AAP.

“Apart from ground, upcoming Delhi Assembly polls will be contested on social media. Currently, AAP and its supreme Mr Kejriwal are far ahead of Delhi BJP social media presence. All these efforts are done only increase Delhi BJP’s social media presence to counter AAP propaganda on social media and it can be achieved only by sincere efforts,” he added.
