NEW DELHI: The BJP has shortlisted the names of 35 municipal councillors for the party leadership for the February 8 Assembly elections in the national capital.

According to well-placed sources, the BJP has shortlisted two to three names in a majority of Assembly segments in a late-night meeting chaired by the party president and Union home minister Amit Shah.

“Shortlisted names include the names of 35 municipal councillors in the same number of seats. The names will be placed before the Central Election Committee for the BJP ticket to contest Delhi Assembly polls,” they said.

It is learnt that the names of these sitting councillors have been shortlisted on the basis of their works, transparency in their work, accessibility, popularity among voters and others. “While assessing the performance of councillors, the leadership has shortlisted their names to be forwarded to the party’s central election committee.
