New Delhi: A 26-year-old man posing as a Crime Branch officer kidnapped a businessman from West Delhi’s Hari Nagar area in order to earn quick money.

The idea to earn quick money flipped up after the sleuths of Delhi Police nabbed the fake officer-cum-kidnapper within two hours and rescued the businessman safely.

The incident occurred on Tuesday and police said that they have initiated manhunt to nab the remaining culprits.

The accused has been identified as Haripal, a resident of Najafgarh area. According to Deepak Purohit, DCP (West district), on Tuesday at around 9:40 pm a police control room (PCR) call was received regarding the kidnapping of a businessman from Tilak Nagar Metro station gate number-3 and demand of `25 lakh as ransom for his release.

“Acting on the call, a police team was constituted to rescue the victim and nab the kidnapper. The kidnapper was put on technical surveillance and a trap was laid at Ring Road, near Delhi Cantt Metro station where the ransom money was demanded to be delivered,” said the DCP.

“A swift car came and five occupants including the victim were sitting in it. Haripal was arrested and the victim Aman Kumar was safely rescued but three more culprits in the car fled after hitting the car of police team,” said the DCP.

“During interrogation, Haripal told police that he wanted to open his personal business but did not have sufficient money to invest. To meet the requirement, he, alongwith another accused Ajay Tripathi, hatched a conspiracy to abduct a wealthy target,” said the DCP.

Tripathi is previously found involved in four heinous cases including a case of demanding ransom for kidnapping of a five-year-old child, said the DCP.
