Kolkata: Within few hours of chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s announcement of organising a grand rally on Federal Front with the top leaders of the Opposition parties at the Brigade Parade ground on January 19, BJP national secretary Rahul Sinha declared to hold a rally to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the same venue on January 23.

He also described the Trinamul Congress supremo’s Shahid Dibos (Martyrs’ Day) rally as the “last one.”

At the state BJP headquarters Mr Sinha said, “This was the last rally of the Trinamul in 25 years. There will be no more rallies by the Trinamul on July 21 either on road or ground. After this they will have to organise their rally in someone’s courtyard. According to her, the BJP came to power in Tripura because the CPI(M) had rotten there. But here the Trinamul has turned into a dumping ground. The BJP will undertake the initiative to clean the dumping ground.” The former state BJP president added, “She made a thunderous announcement to hold a rally at the Brigade. Will we sit silently? The

BJP’s procession of chariots will be organised across the state. The final rally will be held at the Brigade on January 23 when Mr Modi will attend it.” Meanwhile, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh said, “We hare targeting to bag 22 seats from two. She is thinking to reach 42 from 34. The BJP has made it clear about its prospect in view of its rise in the by-elections and panchayat elections.”

The BJP MLA of Kharagpur added, “The wind is blowing in a different direction. We are organising rallies to test and show our strength. But the Trinamul Congress is now following us. Often the opposition parties organise rallies to compete with the ruling party. But here the ruling party is trying to compete with the opposition party. It shows that we are ahead of them.”
