Tempo hits truck, both drivers dead

Mumbai: A speeding tempo hit a stationary truck at KashimiraTEMPearly Monday, leaving the drivers of both the truck and the tempo dead, and a cleaner of the truck grievously injured and battling for life at a private hospital.

The accident occurred at around 4.45 am on Monday on the flyover near Dodhia petrol pump along the national highway at Kashimira.

According to the police, a Tata truck headed towards Mumbai developed a puncture, compelling its driver, Shrikant Somnath Rathod (26) and cleaner, Raju Keshav Rathod (25)  to change the rear wheel. That’s when a speeding tempo smashed into the stationary truck and killed both Shrikant Rathod and Shivram Aadhar on the spot.  

An on-duty personnel at Kashimira police station  said, “Apart from relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, a case under sections 304 (a), 279, 337, 338 and 427 of the IPC has been registered against the deceased driver, Shivram Aadhar. We are awaiting the autopsy reports to ascertain whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol.”
