MUMBAI: A bus driver was injured while 35 passengers escaped unhurt in an accident where two tourist buses collided with each other on Thane-Ghodbunder Road near Shankar Mandir at Gaimukh, Thane west, Tuesday morning. While the buses suffered damage on the front and rear side, there was no casualty.

According to preliminary information obtained from the Kasarvadavli police, a Raman Travels tourist bus bearing registration number MH-04-JK-4068 and coming from the Borivali side, rammed into another tourist bus headed in the same direction at 8.30 am. No injuries were reported from the other tourist bus plying from Kashimira, Mira Road, with no passengers. However, the driver of the Raman Travels tourist bus sustained serious injuries to both his legs and was rushed to the nearby Kevalya Hospital, Ghodbunder Road, where he is currently receiving treatment. Luckily, all 35 passengers in the Raman Travels tourist bus escaped unhurt.

Soon after the accident, officials from the local police, regional disaster management cell (RDMC) and fire brigade reached the spot with an emergency tender, a rescue vehicle and an ambulance.

An official from Kasarvadavli police, which is probing the accident, said that its cause is yet to be ascertained. However, the police suspects that the driver of the Raman Travels tourist bus may have dozed off while driving, leading to the accident.
