No marksheets for 75 MSW students
Mumbai: Around 75 students of Masters of Social Work (MSW) at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Contemporary Studies, University of Mumbai (MU) have not received their marksheets since October 2016.
Even after being a self-financing body, the department doesn’t have enough faculties and a full-time director, leading to irregular lectures, no field work and research assignment that should be technically carried in the MSW’s two-year course, they said.
“It started in 2016, after the completion of our first semester when we did not receive our mark sheets but at that time we did not take it seriously as that was the first year of our department as well. Following that, the On-Screen Marking (OSM) mess occurred when we again complained about the mark sheet matter to the MU.
However, ironically, our director Mr Chandrakanth Puri was replaced by the now (in-charge) director Mr Balaji Kendra,” said a student of the department.
He continued, “Since then we have been continuously trying to reach the officials of MU but nothing worked out.”
These students’ fourth semester (final semester) will begin this April however, it is already February end and no lectures have started till now. According to Maharashtra Public University Act, the students should be given 90 days before conducting the examination.
“We don’t have any teachers or professors who can teach us. We don’t any coordinator who can guide us with research and field work,” another student added.
The students on Thursday sat outside the MU Fort campus where they protested silently trying to get a solution from the varsity.
Later, an official of the MU confirmed to the Asian Age that all the issues of the students will be considered.
