Rape accused gives police ‘evidence of innocence’

Mumbai: The 57-year-old founder-director of an Andheri-based IB school, who allegedly raped a three-year-old girl on several occasions in November last year, has presented new evidence in his defence to show that he is not guilty.

The accused has given a fresh list of teachers and close confidantes who will give out statements from his side. Police sources said that they are cross-questioning every witness and checking every detail minutely because there is not much evidence in this case.

Speaking to The Asian Age, Navinchandra Reddy, deputy commissioner of police Zone 10, said, “Since the crime was allegedly committed last year in November, the police has found no evidence to nail the accused, and no arrest can be made on the basis of an allegation, as there is no CCTV footage or substantial evidence to arrest him. As protocol, the police has to hear out the accused, and without that nothing much can be done.”

An officer investigating this case has revealed that the accused, who has faced five rounds of interrogation, has been submitting evidence that which was scrapped by the investigating team, and it now suspects that the accused is simply buying time to kill the case. However, when the police questioned the accused, he constantly refuted all charges.
