Madhuri Dixit helms Mumbai Police campaign

Mumbai: The city police has started a campaign to spread public awareness about their emergency helpline numbers, citing Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit-Nene as role model. Recently, at a police event, Dixit-Nene and another Bollywood actress Vidya Balan were asked if they remembered the helpline numbers, to which they replied in the affirmative. On Tuesday, police tweeted the fact that Dixit-Nene and Balan had remembered helpline details on their Twitter handle, “Mumbaipolice” in a bid to spread awareness.

As per the Twitter account, the actresses were part of the police programme Umang. During the event, the actresses were tested on their knowledge on emergency help line numbers existing in the city. According to the post shared on the Twitter handle, both actresses were asked about the police control room which is 100, child helpline number 1098, ambulance number 108, and women’s safety helpline 103. Mumbai police has urged citizens to follow in the footsteps of these actresses and remember emergency helpline numbers including the women’s helpline number and report any untoward incident.

According to web team’s Ashwini Koli, “This post is to make citizens and all women aware about the helpline and to use those helpline numbers to help themselves and others. Even actresses know about these numbers so the entire public should also know. During Umang programme, Balan also said that the Mumbai police is known for safety and citizens should also feel the same by using these helpline numbers. Umang festival was held on Saturday last week.
