IBL renamed as Premier Badminton League
The Badminton Association of India’s organising committee said on Thursday that the January 2 to 17 Indian Badminton League would now be called the Premier Badminton League.
In a statement, the BAI said, “The decision to give a new name to the event was taken after much deliberation and keeping in mind that the committee aims to take the tournament to the global level in the years to come. PBL will also ensure that the League is no more associated with any country and it takes a global platform.”
“It was a well thought out decision to change the name of the event at this stage,” BAI chief Akhilesh Das Gupta added, “We aim to make PBL the most sought after tournament in the world.
Several associations across the world have already consented to sending players for the event despite it being Olympic year.
The tournament will kick off on January 2 in Mumbai and the finale will take place here in Delhi on January 17.
