Andhra Pradesh transport ministry has decided to improve the traffic system in the state by launching a WhatsApp number. Citizens of Andhra can now click photos or videos of those who don’t follow the rules while driving and send it on the WhatsApp number – 9542800800.

Citizens could send photos of people over speeding, jumping signals, overloading, wrong parking, triple riding, wrong route driving and other violations. The transport department will fine these offenders seen in the photos/videos and will penalise them for traffic violations.

Transport minister Perni Venkata Ramaiah noted that public participation was very important for checking traffic violations and fatal accidents. Perni also said how people are normally violating traffic rules on a regular basis and because of this so many lives are lost in these road accidents. And hence, the ministry decided to launch this citizen-driven enforcement system.

Perni also confirmed that the names and numbers of the senders will be kept confidential.
