After months of delays and in a cold war-ish race with Huawei to release the world’s first commercially available foldable smartphone, Samsung has finally launched the Galaxy Fold in Korea. It is also soon to be launched in other regions including France, Germany, Singapore, UK and the US soon.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Fold in two colours—Cosmos Black and Space Silver. There is also a 5G version that will be released soon.

Screen

The phone sports a 7.3-inch infinity Flex display when opened like a book. The screen itself is a dynamic AMOLED panel and has a 4.2:3 aspect ratio. The phone folds in half to reveal a smaller 4.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED display on the outside front face.

Camera

The Galaxy fold has a 10MP front-facing camera on the ‘cover’ face, another 10MP+8MP dual camera setup above the main foldable screen inside, and a triple camera setup on the rear comprising a main 12MP camera lens with variable aperture, a 16MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens.

Performance

The device will run on the Snapdragon 855 SoC coupled with 12GB RAM and 512GB internal storage. The unit will be powered by a 4380mAh battery, that itself is split into two parts to allow the device to fold. The phone will run on Samsung’s One UI on Android 9.0 Pie that has been optimised for both the outer and larger inner screens.
