FPIs put in over Rs10,000 crore in January
NSDL data shows FPIs invested Rs 10,200 crore in equity as on Jan. 18, 2020.
Mumbai: Foreign portfolio investors have maintained a positive view on the Indian equity market so far in 2020, with net investments worth Rs 10,200 crore in January so far. The month has also seen reduced market volatility due to lower inflows in mutual funds and redemptions by retail investors.
NSDL data shows FPIs invested Rs 10,200 crore in equity as on Jan. 18, 2020.
Last year FPIs had invested over Rs 1 lakh core in Indian equities.
Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Financial Services, said, "FPIs were maintaining its risk-on strategy with positive inflows in emerging market (EM), with expectation of no hike in US Fed rate and improvement in EMs economies during calendar year 2020."
India’s high foreign exchange reserves is keeping rupee-dollar exchange rates in a narrow range, which is seen as giving comfort to FPIs in investing in India.
