Akshay Kumar in a pleasant quandary

It’s never happened in recent times that a top star has a slew of films lined up for release, and the film’s producers are wondering when to release them.

The film industry’s most prolific star Akshay Kumar who has a good mix of films from movies – from action packed ventures, comedy movies to those with a dash of deshbhakti - has his producers in a quandary. Interestingly he himself is a stakeholder on some of these films.

Akshay will have five films ready for a back-to-back release. He has Kesari with Karan Johar and directed by Anurag Singh up for release in March during Holi. Then Mission Mangal is scheduled for an August release to time it with Independence Day. He is also slated to do Suryavanshi with Rohit Shetty and Good News that has him opposite Kareena Kapoor and has been produced by Karan Johar. Lastly Housefull 4 for Sajid Nadiadwala is also slated for an end of the year release.

“It’s a good quandary for an actor to be in. But, the producers will need a few clear weeks before the actor’s film comes on screen, as an overdose of Akshay Kumar will also hamper their box office collections. All the producers concerned will need to sit and sort their release dates,” says a trade expert.

Hopefully good sense will prevail and we will not have five releases in a single year as the only available date for a fifth film will be between March and July since Good News has already blocked the July 19 date.
