Drunk man mows down pedestrian, arrested
A case was registered at the Jahangirpuri police station and Ashok Kumar was arrested.
New Delhi: Latest in the series of drink and drive cases, a 38-year-old man was killed on Saturday evening after being hit by a car on the Outer Ring Road near Mukundpur Chowk. Two alert bikers nabbed the fleeing driver after a brief chase.
Sanjeev Singh, a labourer was crossing the road when the accident took place at about 8.40 pm on Saturday. The cops arrested the accused drunk driver Ashok Kumar who is said to be in his late twenties.
The police said that Singh, who was drunk, failed to maneuver the car which was coming from Burari and heading towards Mukundpur. The car was overspeeding and hit Sanjeev who due to the impact flung in the air and crashed on the road sustaining critical injuries.
Following this, Ashok didn’t stop the car but instead accelerated the speed. Meanwhile, two bike-borne men who witnessed the accident chased Ashok and nabbed him.
The accused was thrashed by the agitated mob who later resorted to vandalism and allegedly set his car on fire. The police was informed and a team immediately rushed to the spot. It was only after the senior police officers reached that the angry mob was pacified. Police has registered a case of arson against the furious mob for setting vehicle ablaze, said a senior police officer.
