Kolkata: The Nadia district police on Wednesday night arrested a fake doctor from Muragacha under Hanskhali police station area.

The accused, Anil Das, is a resident of Chinsurah in Hooghly. Kanu Biswas, an aide of the accused, was also arrested by the police.

Police sources informed that Kanu Biswas had made arrangements for a health camp at Muragacha area.

The patients were enrolled with an advance of Rs 30. Anil Das, who was attending as a doctor, charged Rs 200 from the patients and provided medicines at additional charges.

Doubts surfaced among some patients as his prescription did not have a registration number though it had an “MBBS” written on it.

The doctor was also prescribing ayurvedic medicines. When he was quizzed about it, he was unable to give a satisfactory answer.

The police took him in for grilling. Das claimed to be a doctor of alternative medicine and could not say why he was using the MBBS degree in the prescription.

Biswas, who had arranged the health camp and taken a good amount of money from Das, was also arrested.
