Navi Mumbai residents, builders freed from CIDCO nod

Mumbai: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken a decision that in future if a builder or resident wants to redevelop or plans to do any new construction in Navi Mumbai, he/she need not seek the permission of CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra).

Mr Fadnavis has made the 344 square kilometres land in Navi Mumbai freehold.

In a meeting held with CIDCO’s managing director and district collector, Mr Fadnavis ordered to take a call to make the land freehold, which will come as a big relief to the five lakh families of Navi Mumbai. Along with the CIDCO homes, private housing societies will also enjoy the banishment of the need to procure CIDCO permission.

Since the last 60 years, Navi Mumbai’s 344 square kilometres land was being developed by CIDCO and therefore the land was given to CIDCO on rent for that time period.

According to the norms, to make any new construction, one had to procure various permissions from the CIDCO body.

President of Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) Builders’ Association, Prakash Baviskar said, “This is a great call as it will curb the transfer charges and actually give the ownership to the societies and flat owners”.

Earlier, Navi Mumbai residents and builders needed CIDCO permission to register any new flat. Thanks to Mr Fadnavis’ decision, the transfer charges that were necessary during the buying of a new flat will be waived off.
