Minor held, sent to juvenile home in dog-killing case
On August 30, the duo severely assaulted the dog, which later succumbed to injuries in Sion.
Mumbai: The Mumbai police have arrested one of two accused in Wadala dog-killing case and police officers are searching for the second offender. Recently, in Sion, two men had beaten a dog to death and left the animal’s blood-soaked body on the street.
The Wadala Truck Terminal (TT) police have arrested one juvenile and another accused is wanted in the case. The police said that the accused, a minor, has been sent to the juvenile remand home.
According to the police, the incident occurred on August 30, in the Pratiksha Nagar area of Sion in afternoon. The canine was severely assaulted by the duo, subsequently the dog succumbed to multiple injuries. People informed the animal rights organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), about the incident on their emergency help-line number. They helped the eyewitness to register an FIR with the police.
Senior police inspector Ankush Katkar, Wadala TT police, said, “We have registered a case against the two accused and filed a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 119 of the Maharashtra Police Act (MPA), 1951, subsections 11(a) and (l) of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960 and section 429 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).”
Mr. Katkar said that acting upon a tip off, they began investigations. On September 1, they traced and arrested one of the accused, who is 17 years old, from his residence. He was subsequently produced in juvenile court and sent to the juvenile remand home in Dongri. Efforts to trace and apprehend the second accused are under way.
PETA India emergency response assistant Akash Tiwari said "This horrific attack is exactly why PETA India urges the public to report incidents of cruelty to animals immediately, so that the perpetrators can be punished under the law. We commend the Wadala police for arresting one of the two accused."
