BMC to begin RoB works in CR stations
The total cost of the project is Rs 45.77 crore and the work has been allotted to HV Constructions.
Mumbai: The long-standing demand of construction of railway over bridges (RoBs) at Vikhroli and Vidyavihar will finally be met. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will soon undertake the construction of these RoBs, much to the relief of local residents. According to civic officials, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had initially proposed to build both the RoBs. However, the projects were later handed over to the BMC.
In case of Vikhroli RoB, the MMRDA had proposed to build railway flyover in 2007 at level crossing no 14C at Vikhroli railway station. However, the project was later handed over to the BMC. “The railways will build the bridge in their jurisdiction, the BMC will build the incline approach road towards it,” said a senior civic official.
The BMC had appointed Technogem Consultants as a consultant for the Vikhroli RoB. The total cost of the project is Rs 45.77 crore and the work has been allotted to HV Constructions.
The Vidyavihar RoB will connect the LBS Marg and RC Marg. The BMC has appointed SN Bhobe and Associates as a consultant for the project. The total project cost is Rs 108.11 crore and the RoB will be constructed by AB Infrabuild Pvt Ltd.
The demand to construct flyovers at Vikhroli and Vidyavihar railways stations has been a decade long. Vikhroli had witnessed several accidents near railway station area due to the lack of RoB and pedestrian over bridge, which was built later.
Avinash Sukale, a Vikhroli resident said, “After the construction of pedestrian over bridge, the level crossing at Vikhroli railway station was closed, due to which a route connecting East and West had shut completely. Vehicle owners had to a take a long detour. It will save us a lot of travel hassles,”he said.
