CM only concerned with polls, not people: NCP
Ajit Pawar urged people to exercise caution in the present situation.
Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Thursday lashed out at chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and the state disaster management cell for inaction in the wake of the Pune flood, stating that it was in “deep slumber”.
NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik claimed that Mr Fadnavis was concerned only about the Assembly polls and nothing else, as he was in New Delhi to attend poll-related meetings of BJP leaders.
Mr Malik said, “The chief minister is so imbued with the BJP and polls that he sees nothing else. These people are not concerned about the crisis that people are facing. They are only worried about retaining power.” He also asked the chief minister to restore normalcy in parts of the district, where roads had caved in and bridges been washed away.
Former deputy chief minister and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar said that 224 families and 602 cattle had been shifted to safer places in rural areas of Baramati, the Assembly segment he represented. Ajit Pawar urged people to exercise caution in the present situation. He tweeted, “Tributes to those who lost their lives in the mishaps.”
The NCP has of late witnessed desertion by a slew of its key leaders, including ex-Maharas-htra ministers Ganesh Naik, Jaydatta Kshir-sagar and Sachin Ahir, Satara MP Udayanraje Bhosale, MLAs Shiven-drasinh Bhosale, San-deep Naik, Vaibhav Pichad and Pandurang Barora — all of them either joining the BJP or the Shiv Sena.
The NCP will be contesting the Assembly polls this time in alliance with the Congress and other like-minded parties. In 2014, the Sharad Pawar-led party had snapped ties with the Congress after sharing power with it for 15 years in a row in Maharashtra.
