Shiv Sena to march against Nanar

Mumbai: Taking an aggressive stand against the Nanar green refinery project at Rajapur, the Shiv Sena announced a march at the Ratnagiri collector’s office on August 31. Despite stern opposition towards the project, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is yet to take a decision on cancellation. Shiv Sena is strongly opposing the refinery project and industry minister Subhash Desai announced the cancellation of land acquisition notification in presence of party chief Uddhav Thackeray.

He met Mr Fadnavis over the issue along with the residents’s representatives from the 16 villages who are opposing the project. But Mr Fadnavis is yet to take a  decision on cancellation of the project.

Now Shiv Sena has decided to become more aggressive against the project as the residents demand project cancellation immediately. Mr Fadnavis wants to go ahead with the project as it is the priority project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shiv Sena is politically strong in Konkan region in comparision to BJP. So considering the Loksabha and Assembly elections, Sena would become extremely aggr-essive over the issue as it is very important in political sense, told senior leader.

Shiv Sena leader and local MP Vinayak Raut told The Asian Age, “We have organised a grand march to the Ratnagiri collector’s office from Kuvarbao area. We will walk 4 km and agitate in front of the collector office. We are supporting the residents and will now agitate more aggressively till government cancels the project.”

Mr Fadnavis has kept the decision about the project on hold and residents are not allowing the revenue officials to enter their villages to measure their lands for the project.

“It is an embarrassment for the party chief Uddhav Thackeray that Shiv Sena is supporting the government but Mr Fadnavis has not cancelled the project despite assuring the same. The party also has more plans and may start agitations in Mumbai also very soon,”senior leader said.
