Keeping in mind differently-abled passengers and senior citizens, Central Railway (CR) will make available 36 new wheelchairs at various stations. Some of the new wheelchairs will replace older ones at stations between CST and Thane and CST and Vasai while a few will be placed at small railway stations that do not have them like Parel and King’s Circle to name a few. Also, as part of its ‘Go Green’ initiative, CR will have over 20 bottle crushers to help convert recycled plastic into t-shirts. T-shirts will be made of pet bottles converted into polyester fabric.

A CR official said NGOs and corporates had come under the Rotary Club of Bombay to make it happen and it was a big step in recent efforts to keep stations clean. CR general manager, Akhil Agrawal, said, “With this initiative, we hope that not only will it help us clean up the environment but pet bottles will be converted into something like t-shirts.”

The bottle crushers have been brought in by I Love HK enterprise headed by Harrishh Karrande who said these t-shirts would be partially sold to companies who bought t-shirts for their employees at events or as uniforms and the rest would be given to underprivileged children.
