Former Maharashtra deputy chief minister and senior National Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal, who is currently under judicial custody in an alleged money laundering case, was admitted on Friday to the state-run JJ Hospital for some medical treatment. Bhujbal, who is allegedly suffering from heart ailments and blood pressure, needs to undergo three medical tests. The former PWD minister and his nephew and former lawmaker Sameer Bhujbal are in judicial custody for money laundering case.

Officials from the JJ Hospital on the condition of anonymity said that they are yet to decide where the tests will be conducted — whether at JJ or a private hospital — Lilvati or Jaslok. Bhujbal, who is suffering from blood pressure, arthritis, recently complained of chest pain to the jail authorities.

On September 17, Bhujbal was rushed to JJ Hospital over suspicions of dengue. The Asian Age had, on October 11, reported that though Bhujbal was discharged from the hospital two weeks ago after he was successfully treated for viral infection, the hospital had asked the prison authorities to conduct three advanced cardiovascular tests — a Holter test, thallium scan and electrophysiology — stating that it did not have these facilities.

The ED had filed two FIRs against Bhujbal, his son and nephew among others under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act based on Mumbai police FIRs to probe the Delhi-based Maharashtra Sadan construction scam and the Kalina land grabbing case.
