Five Delhi players named in national wushu camp

Five Delhi players are among the 40 probables for the national camp.

Five Delhi players and a coach were selected for the national wushu camp in Shilalroo, Himachal Pradesh, which will conclude on July 5.

The Wushu Association of India shortlisted 40 players, five coaches and a physio to prepare for the forthcoming World Wushu Championship to be held in Kazan, Russia, from September 25 to October 5.

Senior Delhi coach Rajvir Singh has been selected as national team coach while Jammu & Kashmir’s Kuldeep Handoo will assist him.

Singh earlier coached the Indian team at the 13th World Wushu Championship at Jakarta in 2015 and took three silvers and a bronze. He was also part of the team for the 6th Junior World Wushu Championship in Burgas, Bulgaria, in 2016.

Santosh Kumar, 2013 World Championship bronze medallist and 2014 Sanda World Cup gold medallist and 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist Narender Grewal have been selected for the coaching camp along with three new women’s athletes from the capital — Neetu Tokas (75kg), Gurleen Kaur (70kg) and Deepika (70kg).
