In a major setback to the Noida police which has failed to arrest the BMW driver in the past two days, the district court denied it requisition to issue a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the accused on Monday.

Senior superintendent of police Kiran S. said that the Noida police requisition, seeking a non-bailable warrant from the court against the accused driver of the BMW car, was denied because the accused, Vinod Dedha, had already moved an application in the court to surrender.

“We had sought a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the absconding accused. But the court rejected our application on the grounds that the accused had already applied for surrendering. However, the court was adjourned till Tuesday when it is expected to hear arguments from both the parties — defence counsel and prosecution,” said the SSP.

On Saturday, the speeding BMW had hit two bikes at about 11.30 am near Gate No. 7 of the Noida Stadium. One of the injured, Ghulfam Ali (22), an AC mechanic, had succumbed to his injuries at a hospital late on Saturday night. The accused, Vinod Dedha, who was driving the car, had fled from the spot and since then, the police has not been able to trace him.

Vinod is a resident of Mayur Vihar area of Delhi. The city police have also sought help from their counterparts in Delhi to locate him.

“He owns a gym at Sector 22 area. Multiple teams are conducting raid at his possible hideouts. We are trying to arrest him. His friends, colleagues, family and relatives are being questioned to get a clue about his location,” Mr Kumar said.
