Bhopal: In a shocking and heart wrenching incident, a woman in a Madhya Pradesh village was allegedly starved for a week for delivering her second daughter, leading to her painful death.

The incident took place in the village of Pakra under Mouganj police station in Rewa district.

According to the police, the 23-year-old victim, Radha Sahu, was subjected to physical torture allegedly by her in-laws after she gave birth to her second daughter two months ago. Her elder daughter is two and half years old. Her in-laws were “expecting” her to deliver a male child this time.

Radha was allegedly denied food for a week as punishment for giving birth to her second daughter, leading to fast deterioration of her health.

Her father Jagmohan Sahu, a resident of nearby village of Hinouti under Naigadhi police station in the district, later admitted her in the nearby hospital.

Radha died during treatment in the hospital on October 30.

The victim was very weak and her vital organs were not functioning, local block medical officer Prakash Singh Gahrwar told the media.
