BV Papa Rao in race to lead Archery Association of India

It is alleged that the elections were due in 2016, but Prof. Malhotra's group was postponing it deliberately.

New Delhi: Former bureaucrat B.V. Papa Rao, who has been the policy advisor to the KCR government, resigned to contest for the post of the president of Archery Association of India (AAI).

Keenly fought elections are scheduled to be held on Saturday, December 22, in the national capital.

It is learnt that the former chief minister of Jharkhand, Arjun Munda, was a candidate from veteran BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra’s group. But his candidature was rejected as he was not found to be the member of Jharkhand Archery Association. Mr Munda was only a patron of the association.

Prof. Malhotra was the president of the archery association for the last 45 years and he is keenly opposing Mr Rao’s possible entry into the association.

Senior leaders of the Indian Olympic Associations are also opposing Mr Rao because they worry that Mr Rao, who was the founder of the ‘Clean Sports India’ movement, may turn out to be a bull in the China shop with his agenda of reforms in the Indian sports administration.

It is alleged that the elections were due in 2016, but Prof. Malhotra’s group was postponing it deliberately. The Delhi high court intervened and appointed the former chief Election Commissioner of India, Dr S.Y. Quraishi, as the Returning Officer of this controversial election to conduct free and fair election. He is implementing the rules strictly and not allowing any public servant to contest the election. This is why Mr Rao had to resign to contest this election.
