Puducherry lieutenant governor Kiran Bedi has imposed a ban on use of siren in cars of VIPs, including her escort and pilot vehicles.

Puducherry lieutenant governor Kiran Bedi has imposed a ban on use of siren in cars of VIPs, including her escort and pilot vehicles.

A press release from the secretary to lieutenant governor Theva Needhi Das said, emergency services like ambulances and fire service vehicles would be exempted from the restriction on use of sirens.

Ms Bedi has also said no special privilege will be accorded for cars of VIPs such as stopping of traffic, so that people’s right to freedom of movement is not hindered in any manner. Traffic police will also ensure that sufficient number of personnel are present for regulating traffic.

Answering a question regarding the new regulation, chief minister V. Narayanasamy said the Cabinet will discuss the matter. “My personal opinion is that I will not use government vehicles and the rest of the matter will be discussed by the Cabinet,” he said.
