Man with heart failure has two beating hearts after complex surgery

Heart disease can be quite challenging for doctors to operate on which makes every surgery extremely crucial. A Kerala man underwent a rare surgery at a hospital in Coimbatore where the doctors cured him of heart failure in which he now has two beating hearts.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the man underwent the complicated surgery to have two beating hearts in his body after he suffered from heart failure earlier. The 45-year-old whose heart had issues earlier did not have enough lung pressure to conduct the transplant through the traditional method without heart failure. So, the doctors used a small female heart and connected it to his heart in a process called heterotopic heart transplantation.

Suresh now has one fully-functional heart along with his heart which is just 10 percent functional but together work perfectly for him in his body. The operation known to be the first of its kind in Asia was conducted at the Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital in Coimbatore by Dr. Prasanth Vaijyanath.
