New Delhi: Planning to head out of the city to attend a last minute business trip, or going for a vacation, but have to take a step back when you think about your furry friend? How will he manage without you around? Well! The national capital is opening their arms where your pet can look forward to a vacation too.

The concept of foster homes for pets is gaining popularity in the national capital where like-minded pet lovers open their arms and throw open their doors to welcome your pet into their world. To give an edge and a heavenly abode to your pet, think ‘Waggle.’

Waggle is an online platform for dog parents to connect with trusted hosts from around their area. The hosts open their homes for the little ones when the dog parent travel out of town and give them the same amount of love and more.

The platform has a list of fine hosts who have their profiles uploaded on the platform. The host, besides providing his or her introduction, gives out details like how experienced he or she is, how many dogs or pets he or she has kept, etc.

Speaking to this newspaper, Shubha, a member of Waggle said, “Dog lovers and people, who have sufficient dog-care knowledge, can sign up with us as a host on Waggle, create a listing for themselves, choose the price amount per day, and become a part of our Waggle family.”

Waggle does a verification process, where it is decided if the host is capable of taking care of dogs. It is also done to make sure that there are no kennel owners or breeders on the website.

Hosts can mention all their requirements such as the kind of dogs they accept (small breeds, big breeds, certain breeds only). They can also ask to know whether the pet has all its vaccination completed, is housebroken, socialised, etc.

Once accepted by the host, one can schedule a pre-visit to go see their house. If they have a dog, one can check out if both the dogs get along. “Once the customer is happy with the host and wants to go ahead with the reservation, they pay and confirm through Waggle,” she added.

She further said that Waggle has a host payout every week. Hosts are most likely to receive their payment on the pick-up date or before. Waggle takes a 10 per cent charge from the host.

Besides the online platform Waggle, there are individual pet lovers who are willing to fill in for you when you are away.

Neha Kumar, a resident of North Delhi, has been fostering pets for the last three years and has opened her house for them.
