Kolkata: Alarmed by the two BJP workers’ deaths within a span of barely three days in Purulia BJP president Amit Shah lambasted the Mamata Banerjee government on Saturday. He also held the state government responsible for failing to maintain the law and order situation.

In the afternoon Mr Shah tweeted, “Distressed to know about yet another killing of BJP karyakarta Dulal Kumar in Balrampur, West Bengal. This continued brutality and violence in the land of West Bengal is shameful and inhuman. Mamata Banerjee’s govt has completely failed to maintain law and order in the state.”

Offering condolences to Dulal’s family he added, “I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family. I along with millions of BJP karyakartas share grief of Dulal Kumar’s family. May God give his family the strength to withstand this irreparable loss. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.”

Mr Shah also called up Ram Lal who is in charge of looking after BJP’s organisation in West Bengal and inquired about the incident, sources hinted. Union human resource development minister Prakash Javadekar who visited Kolkata also trained guns on the Trinamul Congress government.

He accused the ruling party of killing 19 BJP workers in the state. Mr Javadekar alleged, “These are political murders which happen day in and day out. 19 BJP workers have been murdered here. The latest are Trilochon Mahato and Dulal Kumar. They were hanged.”

Questionning the role of the West Bengal State Election Commission during the recent Panchayat Elections Mr Javadekar alleged, “I challenge if fair elections were held in Purulia, we would have been the ruling party. The state election commission became Mamata eElection commission. We condemn these brutal political murders.”

Echoing him another union minister Babul Supriyo also lashed out at the Trinamul which has been in a tight spot following two BJP workers’ death in the same area of the particular district.

He pointed out, “There has been no statement from the government. Pre-poll, during the poll and post violence have rocked the state.”

The BJP MP reasoned, “If you do not hold chief minister, her aides and her government responsible for this scenerio then who will you point your finger at for the violence? If a member of Dalit community dies in another place, candle-light vigils are taken out. Fingers are pointed towards the BJP.”

He argued, “But I have not seen any tweet by Congress president Rahul Gandhi or SP leader Akhilesh Yadav over these two deaths in Purulia. CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury is not seen to make any statement about it. The only medicine for the violence in West Bengal is Article 356. A strong action will be seen very soon.”

Describing the CID probe an eyewash state BJP president Dilip Ghosh demanded a CBI probe in the two deaths. “The officers-in-charge of the police stations in Purulia are alluring our winning candidates with money to switch to the Trinamul,” he sadi.

If the CBI probe is not done, the truth will not come to light. The CID probe means an eyewash,” he said. Countering the BJP’s attack Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien tweeted, “We strongly condemn this despicable killing. All angles must be probed. The perpetrators of this heinous act must be punished. What role did Jharkhand border have to play? What elements of Bajrang Dal, Maoist or BJP involved.”

He added, “Let the truth be found out through proper investigation.” Slamming the BJP Trinamool secretary general Partha Chatterjee said, “We are sad over the death of two youth. The role of those who are trying to create disturbances with the help of Bajrang Dal, BJP and Maoists should be probed. We want a thoroguh probe in the two deaths.”

Bantering Mr Ghosh’s demand of a CBI probe the state education minister quipped that the BJP presses for a CBI probe even if someone dies in a road accident.
