Mumbai: The Shiv Sena Saturday said that though the government had changed, the systems in the country remained unchanged. Referring to the banking reforms announced by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman Friday, the Sena said that bank scams had not ended and that people were wondering what exactly had changed on the economic front. “The system, which works behind curtains, has not been changed. Scamsters and those helping them are still there. Though the pawns might have changed, the looting of banks has continued,” an editorial in the Sena mouthpiece Saamana said. Quoting a RBI report, the editorial said that there was a 74 per cent increase in bank frauds in 2018-19. “Bank scams are the biggest impediments in the path of economic development of the country. Industries, businesses and all sectors of the country are facing economic crisis and as a result, employment generation has stopped. People are losing their jobs. Owing to the recession, the economy has slowed down. But bank scams have gone up. The current economic situation is very worrisome,” the editorial said.  The Sena said that 6,801 cases of fraud at various banks had been reported and Rs 71,542 crore had been siphoned off in a year. The editorial said that as per the report, the number of bank frauds had increased by 15 per cent.
