Mumbai: The Congress President Rahul Gandhi is likely to intervene in the Maratha stir going on across the state. He called for a meeting of senior Congress leaders on August Wednesday in New Delhi.

Maratha agitations are going on since few days, in which few incidents of violence took place and seven Maratha youths had done suicide. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, led the government is under pressure and trying for pacifying the issue. State backward class commission would take more than three months for the report and government will take steps after that. Congress leaders from the state are supporting the Maratha stir.

Congress-NCP government had earlier given the reservation, which was strike down by the court. Now, when BJP-led government is in trouble, Congress may take political advantage of it. The Congress did not address Maratha reservation issue much at the national level.

So, for the discussion over the issue, Rahul Gandhi called the meeting of the senior leaders. The Congress may form the strategy at national level targeting the PM Narendra Modi-led Union government on Jat, Patidar and Maratha reservations, told senior leader.

Union government is not intervened in the Maratha reservation issue yet though the issue has became serious now.
