Mumbai: A day after the Charkop police registered a rape case based on the complaint of a 20-year-old girl, who said she had been abducted by three van-borne men and raped by one of them, the police gathered footage of a CCTV unit located near the abduction spot. Its contents, however, did not show her getting picked up by the vehicle-borne men. The footage did have the vehicle in it but did not capture the alleged abduction of the girl, said police officials.

The officials said that they are still trying to track down the car, in which the girl claimed to have been kidnapped and later raped. The police is yet to nab any of the three absconding accused. The officials questioned the girl’s former male friend to ascertain if the incident involved a personal vendetta, however, he was let off after questioning. The officials said that the college-going girl is changing her version and not sticking to her previous claims.

As per the girl’s complaint, the incident took place when she was on her way to college, when an Ecco car stopped her midway. There were three men inside who allegedly bundled her inside the car and later one of them sexually assaulted her.

She claimed that the accused threw her out of the vehicle near Madh Island when she fought to free herself from her captors.

“We are probing the case as per her complaint and are in the process of getting the CCTV footage of other places as well. We are yet to identify or arrest anybody in the case,” said Sriranga Nadgouda, assistant commissioner of police (Malvani division).

The complainant claimed that the incident took place in broad daylight at 8:30 am.  She also told the police that she had pelted stones on the car after she was released at Madh and the accused escaped.

The complainant had also told the police that the captors kept mentioning one of the accused had warned her to stay away from ‘him’.
