Dilip Pendse did not sound low in his last call to family

The police is going through call data records (CDRs) of Pendse's phone to check for suspicious call patterns, if any.

Mumbai: The Matunga police, which is probing the suicide of former managing director (MD) of Tata Finance, Dilip Pendse, said that he last spoke to his family members Wednesday morning and did not sound low at all. The police has questioned Pendse’s family members and people working in his office who said that he was pretty normal before his alleged suicide. Pendse allegedly hung himself to death from a ceiling fan in his office at Dadar east on Wednesday morning.

Officials of Matunga police station said that Pendse’s family members and office staff were questioned to ascertain the trigger that led him to commit suicide. However, they claimed they had no idea how this happened. Pendse, who resided right above his office in Royal Grace building near Swami Narayan temple, Dadar east, left behind a suicide note. The police said that during interrogation, his family revealed that he was under depression after the Delhi police arrested him for alleged involvement in misappropriation of funds worth Rs 2 crore.

Pendse’s son from his first wife, Padma, who studies in New Jersey, USA, was immediately informed. During interrogation, the family also said that the last call Pendse made was to his wife, and while talking, he sounded quite normal.

The police is going through call data records (CDRs) of Pendse’s phone to check for suspicious call patterns, if any.

Balasaheb Kakad, senior police inspector, Matunga police station, told The Asian Age, “Pendse left behind a suicide note in which he wrote that he was committing suicide as he was ‘done’ with life and fed up with the legal cases going on against him and nobody was to be blamed.”
