Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will spend a whopping Rs 1.83 crore on the replacement of dividers at Linking Road, Bandra, a famous shopping hub. The old road dividers will be replaced with central median type of barriers which prevent pedestrians from crossing the road at unsafe points.

According to civic officials, the BMC has decided to replace the old dividers with 1metre high central median barriers of the new product development (NPD) 1 type. The BMC has allotted the work to Computers Engineers at a cost of Rs 1.83 crore.

Median barriers physically separate opposite traffic streams and help stop vehicles from straying into opposite traffic lanes. They are often built at the centre of wide roads where they can be used to stop pedestrians from crossing the road at unsafe points.
